BITA in Queensland

BITA in Queensland offers three qualifications, Certificate III in Baking (FBP30521), Certificate III in Bread Baking (FBP30421), and Certificate III in Cake and Pastry (FBP30321) and a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program. These qualifications can be completed using our flexible training model. This means that BITA apprentices can complete their training onsite at their workplace and offsite at our facility where needed.

FUNDING AND SUBSIDIES AT BITA IN QUEENSLAND

Free apprenticeships

At BITA in Queensland, if you qualify for any of the below, you are eligible for a fee-free apprenticeship!

  • School-Based Apprentice – Speak with your school careers advisor regarding the opportunity of a school-based apprenticeship.
  • Under 21 years old – Apprentices must be under 21 years old at the commencement of their apprenticeship.
  • Under 25 years old – Apprentices must be under 25 years old at the commencement of their apprenticeship.

Funded apprenticeships

Apprentices are required to pay a Student Contribution Fee as outlined on the page of their chosen qualification. Queensland State funding can be applied to apprentices meeting the requirements. If eligible, these fees are calculated per nominal hour of $1.60.

*Concession rates apply to students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or hold a Health Care Card or Pension Card.

Non-funded apprenticeships

If you are not eligible for funding, the course will be charged at a fee-for-service rate (full cost). These fees will be confirmed after the application for your course has been approved.

ENROLMENT AT BITA IN QUEENSLAND

To be eligible for enrolment in a course at BITA in Queensland, you must gain employment at a bakery. The bakery must also have a trade-qualified baker/pastrycook onsite.

We recommend contacting an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider or applying for vacant positions in-store, on social media, or online at websites such as the Baking Industry Job Board. Once you have established employment an AASN will assist with the negotiation of your training contract between you and your employer. The AASN will then contact BITA to finalise your paperwork. Your BITA trainer will liaise with you to organise your training plan and commencement.

TRAINING FACILITY

The BITA training facility is located in Morningside, Queensland. It is fitted out with a comprehensive list of state-of-the-art equipment and machinery including various ovens, retarder provers, various mixers, and more. We use high-quality, readily available ingredients to ensure that our apprentices use what they use in their everyday kitchens.

DISABILITY SUPPORT AT BITA IN QUEENSLAND

BITA in Queensland supports apprentices with a disability or learning difficulty by providing resources relevant to their condition to assist. This can include reasonable adjustments to the training or spending additional time with the apprentice via regular video/phone calls. BITA also provides additional tutoring and mentoring for apprentices where needed.

REWARD AND RECOGNITION

During their time at BITA in Queensland, apprentices are encouraged to participate in industry events such as Bake Skills, LA Judge Award, ABINSA, and local baking competitions. We also hold a yearly award night where apprentices that go above and beyond are recognised for their effort and talents. Participating in industry allows BITA apprentices to build a network within the industry that opens doors for future employment opportunities.
